FAQ's

Is flipping required?

  • No flipping is necessary and if any layer ever needs changing for any reason, it is easy and inexpensive.

Do you use flame retardants in your mattress?

  • Every mattress needs to pass a flammability test and we use Eco-Wool because it's a natural fire barrier.

What is your mattress made of?

  • Organic Cotton Damask fabric, Eco-Wool batting, and natural Dunlop latex

Can I pick up an order from your warehouse?

  • Yes-If you are located in San Diego. Please contact us beforehand.

Can I place my mattress on the floor?

  • Yes- but a solid foundation is best

What are the mattress’ foam density/ILD numbers?

  • Extra Firm: 35-38ILD
  • Firm: 31-34 ILD
  • Medium:  27-28 ILD
  • Soft: 23-26 ILD
  • Extra Soft: 18-22 ILD

What does ILD mean?

  • Stands for Indentation Load Deflection.
    •  In simple terms, it is a measurement of how hard or soft a foam is. In more accurate terms, it's the number of pounds of pressure required to indent 4" of foam by 25% using a 50 square inch indentation. You may also see it referred to as the 25% ILD rating. The lower the number the softer the latex is and the higher the number the firmer the latex is.

What type of foundation or frame do you recommend using with your mattresses?

  • We recommend a platform base or slatted foundation with spacing that is 2 1/2" apart or less. If you need to use a box spring, we strongly suggest using a bunky board or plywood board for extra support. Our mattresses are also very flexible and will work great on adjustable bed frames.

Difference between Dunlop and Talalay

          Dunlop process-

  • The process has been used in latex manufacturing since 1929
  • Thick rubber sap is whipped into a froth in a centrifuge
  • The sap is poured into a mold, the mold is covered and steam baked
  • Natural sediments in the mixture settle to the bottom of the mold making Dunlop layers slightly firmer on the bottom side
  • Available in organic

Talalay Process-The newer process that has two additional steps

  • Thick rubber sap is whipped into a froth in a centrifuge
  • The sap is poured and the mold is sealed
  • The process continues in a vacuum chamber where the air is extracted
  • The mold is flash-frozen using chemicals to stabilize the materials. mold is then baked.

What is the difference between Organic and Natural Latex?

  • Organic Latex:
    • Organic latex is made from the sap of the rubber tree which is processed (see the manufacturing process for Dunlop and Talalay). A mattress made from organic latex does not contain any chemicals, synthetics, pesticides, herbicides, or other man-made products.
  • 100% Natural Dunlop Latex:
    • Like organic latex, 100% natural is made from the sap of the rubber tree which is processed (see the manufacturing process for Dunlop and Talalay). 100% Natural latex does not carry the associated USDA agricultural certification. The manufacturing process for organic latex and 100% natural latex is the same. The quality of the end product is identical.
